The Thin Place

Bloom Where You’re Planted Giveaway

Be sure to read all the way to the bottom to enter.

As many of you know, moving to Hawaii was hard. Now moving back to Michigan is hard. Military is hard. Life is just in general full of unexpected things that shake all of us and beg the question, will you thrive or just survive?

In this temporary home here on the islands, one of my refrains quickly became that I was going to plant roots, even if I needed to dig them up again when the Marine Corps gave us new orders. Planting has been a theme here. Our little kitchen has a spot for a window garden and I had grand visions of a thriving  little corner of beauty and nourishment. I have now killed several varieties of herbs and flowers but have managed to keep a pot of succulents alive. Just one pot, the other three have died. But I keep trying.

Friendships here have a funny way of cycling through. Between deployments and change of duty stations, I’ve had to regroup about three times in the short years I’ve lived here. Yet, digging deep and opening my home and heart to others has been a gift. I am grateful for what each and every person who crossed my threshold has meant to me. Many of these friendships, born out of necessity, have become my ohana, my family, and these relationships will survive my lifetime.

When I saw two friends from college had started a small business, Homebodies Co, I leapt for joy. These women have such a gift for appreciating and creating beauty. I was captivated by their pieces. When I asked if they were interested in partnering for a giveaway, they quickly suggested this piece.

“Bloom where you’re planted.” It’s a simple phrase but it encompasses so much of what I want to convey here at The Thin Place. No matter your fight, no matter the burden, no matter how thinly you are stretched, God will strengthen you to bear your cross and boldly proclaim, “He is doing a mighty thing.”

So I hope that, no matter your season, you will enter  and be reminded to bloom wherever you are. And be sure to check out Homebodies Co on Etsy and on Instagram.

Entered, beautiful saying. Also, thank you for your sacrifice. I know sometimes all our wonderful warriors get all the credit for serving their country, but in my opinion their families are due the same amount. So, thank you!

I love the phrase “Bloom where are you are planted” because it reminds us to appreciate what you have. Forever searching for greener pastures won’t bring you happiness.

Hello, I’m Bailey
about me

Hello, I’m Bailey

The Thin Place was born out of a season of struggle. A season where I felt stretched thin and desperately longed to see the goodness of God in the land of the living. The goodness of God showed up in unexpected ways. During that season, the spiritual disciplines laid out in Scripture, the traditions of the Church, and the reminders of His faithfulness seen in liturgial living and the feasts and seasons of the Church calendar all opened my eyes to the hope we have in Christ.
