Resources on Catholicism: What Catholics Believe

In the last few weeks, I’ve made some announcements and shared answers to some frequently asked questions about Catholicism. I promised a few weeks ago that I would compile a page of resources to help clarify and expound upon what Catholics believe.

This is definitely not an exhaustive list, it’s simply the resources that have been personally helpful to me. The top half of this post is a list of authors, bloggers, podcasters, etc. who have been encouraged or helped me understand different aspects of the Catholic faith. The second half is resources for specific “hot button” topics.

Here are several resources explaining what Catholics believe:

(Mostly free resources, like YouTube channels, blogs, and podcasts, but a few of the resources below are affiliate links.)

Father Mike Schmitz YouTube Channel

Father Mike creates simple, short videos that teach different pieces of theology in easy-to-understand terms. His videos on Mary and the Immaculate Conception and Confession were both insightful!

Clerically Speaking

This podcast is hosted by 2 priests and helps clarify so many unique aspects of Catholic theology. Their episode on indulgences was particularly helpful for me!

The Roman Circus Podcast

This podcast is a strange combination between snarky social commentary and deep discussion of the faith. Regularly, they do deep dives into Catholic theology, social teaching, and practices.

Scott Hahn’s Books

Scott Hahn is a fellow convert to Catholicism who had a similar perspective as me. We both went to the same, small reformed college in Pennsylvania and went to the same seminary as many of the pastors I love and learned under. Because we both came from a similar place, his books have been very instrumental.

Kendra Tierney

Both her book Catholic All Year Long and her blog have been a great insight into Church history and celebrating the liturgical calendar

Haley Stewart’s Blog/Podcast

This podcast, Fountains of Carrots, was one of my first introductions to Catholicism. It’s a lovely podcast that focuses on books and culture from a faith-informed perspective. Below is a lovely book by she wrote on stewardship and contentment! Her blog, Carrots for Michaelmas, was such an inspiration to me! Read her conversion story here.

What Catholics Believe: Resources on Catholicism

I hope these resources on Catholicism are helpful to you!

If you’re looking to better understand the Catholic faith, nothing can replace actually talking to a priest, reading the Catechism, or going through RCIA (the Catholic faith introduction class for adults). All of these things were instrumental in my decision to join the Catholic Church last year. While resources were helpful, nothing moved my heart like seeking the Lord in prayer and His word and experiencing the warm welcome of the little portion of the Body of Christ at the parish near me!

Hello, I’m Bailey
about me

Hello, I’m Bailey

The Thin Place was born out of a season of struggle. A season where I felt stretched thin and desperately longed to see the goodness of God in the land of the living. The goodness of God showed up in unexpected ways. During that season, the spiritual disciplines laid out in Scripture, the traditions of the Church, and the reminders of His faithfulness seen in liturgial living and the feasts and seasons of the Church calendar all opened my eyes to the hope we have in Christ.
