Hello, I’m Bailey

The Thin Place was born out of a season of struggle. A season where I felt stretched thin and desperately longed to see the goodness of God in the land of the living. The goodness of God showed up in unexpected ways. During that season, the spiritual disciplines laid out in Scripture, the traditions of the Church, and the reminders of His faithfulness seen in liturgial living and the feasts and seasons of the Church calendar all opened my eyes to the hope we have in Christ.

This week, I want to encourage you to listen to the words of the Psalmist:⁣
⁣
Blessed is the man⁣
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,⁣
nor stands in the way of sinners,⁣
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;⁣
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,⁣
and on his law he meditates day and night.⁣
He is like a tree⁣
planted by streams of water,⁣
that yields its fruit in its season,⁣
and its leaf does not wither.⁣
In all that he does, he prospers. – Psalm 1:1-3, RSVCE⁣
⁣
I can't speak for your social media feeds, but often mine are filled with scoffers. Scoffers I agree with, and scoffers I disagree with, but I've decided that, even in digital spaces, I will no longer sit in the seat of scoffers, but will instead turn my attention to the law of the Lord.⁣
⁣
I have also decided that I need to step back from the outrage machine, from the demand that I have an opinion (and a strong one at that) about everything in the news. Jesus doesn't call me to scream into the void of social media that I am right and others are fools, but He does call me to love. And I wonder how often these ideological battles stop us from being the hands and feet of Jesus.⁣
⁣
How much time have I devoted to outrage instead of to the love God has called me to?⁣
⁣
It's simple, but hard to choose loving action instead of vocal inaction.⁣
⁣
But in the response to the horrors on the news, it seems like a great act of faith to believe that, in the face of injustice we can turn and love those around us, trusting that God will multiple our little actions, our widow's pennies, and use them to nourish the bodies and souls of those around the world.⁣

It's been a rough week in the news. When I read the news or watch clips from around the world pop into my social media feeds, it's hard not to feel overwhelmed and outraged. But it's also hard not to become calloused and numb, shrugging off the horrors and pretending there's nothing I can do. St Therese of Lisieux wrote, “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.” I cannot swoop in and relieve those suffering in Haiti or Afghanistan. As much as I wish I could wave a wand and end the pandemic, it is beyond my power. I wish I could clothe everyone who shivers as they sleep, feed every growling stomach, love every child who suffers, and bandage every wound. But I am finite and limited. It is easy to become discouraged at what I cannot do, instead of looking at the work God has called and is equipping me to do today. I can love my family and community, I can humbly offering up my trials and sufferings, and I can pray and fast for those in need. If you are feeling discouraged and hopeless today, I encouraged you to fix your eyes upon Jesus and ask Him to show you the little things that you are able to do today to make your little corner of the world "on earth as it is in Heaven." It's been a rough week in the news.

When I read the news or watch clips from around the world pop into my social media feeds, it's hard not to feel overwhelmed and outraged. But it's also hard not to become calloused and numb, shrugging off the horrors and pretending there's nothing I can do.

St Therese of Lisieux wrote, “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”

I cannot swoop in and relieve those suffering in Haiti or Afghanistan. As much as I wish I could wave a wand and end the pandemic, it is beyond my power. I wish I could clothe everyone who shivers as they sleep, feed every growling stomach, love every child who suffers, and bandage every wound. But I am finite and limited.

It is easy to become discouraged at what I cannot do, instead of looking at the work God has called and is equipping me to do today. I can love my family and community, I can humbly offering up my trials and sufferings, and I can pray and fast for those in need.

Happy Friday! Time for a quick #fridayintroductions 1️⃣ I love Jesus and His Bride, the Church. 2️⃣ I’m a Reformed Presbyterian turned Roman Catholic who is passionate about sharing the traditions of the Church and bridging the gap between denominations. 3️⃣ I love collecting mugs almost as much as I love the coffee that fills them. 4️⃣ My husband and I have 2 pretty cute dogs, one which is tiny, normal, and chill and another which is basically a dog version of Melman from the movie Madagascar. 5️⃣ After a few years in Hawaii, my home is once again in the Mitten State. I actually quite love Michigan weather and missed the variety of the seasons in Hawaii. Here’s to autumn colors right around the corner! Happy Friday! Time for a quick #fridayintroductions

1️⃣ I love Jesus and His Bride, the Church.
